2006 Health Premium Rates

The CalPERS Board has approved health plan premium increases that average 8.7% for HMO’s for the 2006 plan year. Individual plan increases: Blue Shield 8.62, Kaiser 8.73%, Western Health Advantage 9.8%, PERSChoice 9.42% and PERSCare 9.76%. The CAPS MOU requires that beginning in January 2006, the state pay 85% of the weighted average of the four largest plans for single coverage, and for the state to pay 80% of the additional premium for two and three-party coverage. The state’s 2006 contribution toward health plans for 2006: single $321, two-party $625 and family $807. As a result, some members saw a reduction in their out-of-pocket costs in January.  Employees must pay the difference between the state contribution and total premium. Below are the rates for each plan at each enrollment level. Details on plan changes will come directly from CalPERS to individual members, or go to www.calpers.ca.gov. Open enrollment was held in September and October 2005 for the 2006 enrollment year.
